His study was conducted on 118 men with damaged sperm that later showed signs of improvement after having sex daily for just one week. Eighty-one of these men showed a 12% decrease in damaged sperm meaning their fertility chances increased significantly.

The theory maintains sperm that stays in the testes too long has more of a chance of damage; thus decreasing viability, quality, motility and quantity.

Additional research unrelated to Greening’s study, shows there are many factors that can damage sperm including hot baths, foods, laptop computers, cell phones, tobacco products, saunas, pesticides and drugs.

Until this study and research, abstinence was believed to increases the amount of viable sperm so it was recommended to wait between sessions to let sperm build up before engaging in intercourse. However, Greening’s research at the fertility clinic has produced significant results.

Not all researchers agree with Greenberg saying the added pressure of trying to maintain a daily sexual routine may create additional stress and become a hindrance to couples trying to conceive.
