Is there a possibility of getting pregnant at age 46?

Both of us are 46 years olf and wanted to have a child. Would it be alright to

My partner and I are both 46 years old. We both wanted to have a baby even at this late age. I am still having my monthly period and I also wanted to have a baby, my first if ever. Do I need to go to the doctor so that my body will be well prepared?

It might be harder to conveive for you as the older you get, the older your eggs get.
There is also a higher chance of problems arising throughout the pregnancy like birth defects, pre-eclampsia and premature labor.
It probably is a good idea to speak to a doctor before trying to conceive, they will probably advise you about what vitamins to take (folic acid will definitely be one of them) and may ask you a few questions about your overall health etc.
goodluck if it’s what you both want.

yes, it’s possible up until menopause is complete. However you’ll find it much, much harder to conceive, your miscarriage rate is a lot higher than a younger woman and the chance of problems such as downs syndrome are raised the older you are. Also bear in mind that you’ll be in your 50s and having to run around after a young child.

Your chances of getting pregnant might be less, but not necessarily. PLenty of women go on to conceive at ‘advanced maternal ages’ (ack, I hate that term) just fine. If you and your partner want to, then it’s alright to! :D

I would start taking folic acid now. If you or your partner smoke, stop. Try to eat a healthy diet. Before I had my first, I went to the doctor for a pre-conception physical (which I think they rarely do) and found that I had no immunity to rubella, so I had an additional dose of MMR and got pregnant a month later. No big deal.

    Good luck to you!

Lol!!! That’s wayyy too old to be having babies. Your children will be laughed at when old momma picks them up from school.
